What is a Ceramic Coating?

In simple terms, a ceramic coating is a liquid polymer that chemically bonds with the vehicle's factory clear coat. Once cured, it forms a semi-permanent layer of protection.

Unlike traditional carnauba waxes that sit on top of the surface and degrade quickly, ceramics offer greater chemical resistance against bird droppings, bug splatter, and road salts. They also provide hydrophobic properties, meaning water beads up and rolls off, making routine washing easier.

Important Distinction

We never describe coatings as permanent. They are sacrificial layers that degrade over time. They do not make your car scratch-proof, and they do not replace the need for regular washing.

Factors Affecting Coating Durability

The lifespan of any protection product is highly variable. If a product states "up to 3 years," that assumes optimal conditions. Real-world durability depends heavily on:

Preparation Quality

A coating will only bond effectively to perfectly clean, bare paint. If the decontamination and polishing phases are rushed, the coating will fail prematurely.

Mileage & Usage

A vehicle driven 20,000 miles a year on motorways faces significantly more physical abrasion (from dirt and water spray) than a weekend car stored in a garage.

Washing Routine

Using harsh, high-alkaline traffic film removers at cheap hand car washes will strip or degrade a coating very quickly. Safe maintenance washing is essential.

Vehicle Storage

Cars parked outside constantly exposed to UV rays, tree sap, and bird droppings will see their coatings degrade faster than garaged vehicles.

Weather Conditions

UK winters, with their heavy use of corrosive road salts, are particularly demanding on any protection layer.

The Chosen Product

Different chemical formulations offer different balances of slickness, gloss, and longevity. We discuss options based on your specific needs.
