The Detailing Process
Beyond a standard wash. Detailing is a systematic approach to resetting the vehicle's surfaces, removing embedded contamination, and assessing paint condition.
What Makes It 'Detailing'?
The term is often used loosely, but we define detailing as a process that addresses issues standard washing cannot fix. It involves specialized chemicals to break down bonded fallout, physical tools to assess clear coat depth, and techniques to potentially enhance the visual finish.
It is not a magic solution for deep scratches or failing paintwork, but rather a methodical deep clean and refinement process.
1. Preparation & Safe Wash
The foundation step. We perform an extensive pre-wash and contact wash to ensure the vehicle is entirely free of loose surface dirt before any further steps are taken.
2. Chemical Decontamination
We use dedicated fallout removers to dissolve embedded iron particles (often from brake dust) and tar removers to break down sticky road deposits that bond to the lower panels.
3. Physical Decontamination (Claying)
If necessary, a detailing clay bar or synthetic clay pad is used with a lubricant to shear off any remaining microscopic contaminants, leaving the paintwork feeling smooth like glass.
4. Paint Assessment
Once clean and bare, the paint is inspected under dedicated detailing lighting. This reveals the true extent of swirl marks, wash marring, and deeper defects.
5. Optional Machine Polishing
Based on the assessment and client discussion, machine polishing may be undertaken. This step aims to level the clear coat microscopically, reducing the appearance of minor defects and improving overall gloss. Note: Results depend entirely on the thickness and condition of the existing paint.
6. Surface Preparation
Polishing oils are wiped away using a dedicated panel wipe solution, ensuring the clear coat is completely bare and ready to accept protection.
7. Protection Application
A chosen layer of protection (wax, synthetic sealant, or ceramic coating) is carefully applied to help shield the finish and make future maintenance easier.
Setting Realistic Expectations
We do not promise "perfect paint correction" or a guaranteed showroom finish on a used vehicle. Older vehicles, in particular, require careful inspection and may have limits on how much clear coat can be safely removed or polished. Our goal is significant improvement and long-term preservation.
